Montessori Kinderhaus Enrollment Process

Proposed Opening in September, 2003

Dear Applicant for the proposed Montessori Kinderhaus:

Thank you for your interest in the River Valley Charter School. At this time we are planning to conduct a conditional lottery for enrollment for the proposed Montessori Kinderhaus for 5

year old children. Because of time constraints between the approval date and the date for reporting the names of the students who will potentially attend this new class, we are accepting applications now for the conditional lottery to be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at 1 p. m.

The following procedures are required for admission:-

  1. File Application and proof of residency (utility bill) by March 4, 2003 at 8 p. m.
  2. Attend a school information meeting on March 4, 2003 at either 9 a. m. or 6:30 p. m.
  3. Observe a classroom including a tour of the school.
  4. Sign a Parent Agreement.

 

There are two ways that enrollment occurs:-

Lottery

Once a year there is a lottery to select applications for a ranked order for entrance into the school. When there are more applicants than openings in a given age group, the additional names are maintained on Wait Lists.

The categories of Wait Lists are:-

  •  Sibling Wait List: applicants of current students
  •  General Wait List: applicants from chartered region
  •  Non-Resident List: residents of Massachusetts out of chartered region
  •  Out-of-State List: applicants moving to chartered region by July 1

Openings

In the event that there are openings in an age group and no wait list for those positions, then the administration may offer enrollment to applicants who have filed for admission but not participated in a lottery. In this case, the date of receipt of the application becomes the ranked order with the earliest filings being given preference. At the next lottery time, any unenrolled applicants are lottered and wait listed for future openings.
