Curriculum Maps

The River Valley Charter School curriculum is guided by the Montessori educational philosophy. All River Valley teachers are trained in the Montessori Method and many hold multiple Montessori credentials.

River Valley Charter School faculty have aligned the Montessori curriculum with the Massachusetts State Standards to create a public Montessori curriculum. These "Curriculum Maps" guide the work of the teacher in the classroom.

Learning Goals

In addition to Curriculum Maps, faculty have created Learning Goals that highlight the expectations, or outcomes, parents can expect their children to have as a result of the education they receive at River Valley.

As a Montessori school with multi level classrooms (with the exception of kindergarten), Curriculum Maps and Learning Goals are created for the level. e.g., there is a set of Learning Goals for kindergarten, Elementary 1 (grades 1, 2, and 3), Elementary 2 (grades 4, 5, and 6), and middle school (grades 7 and 8). The Learning Goals for each level are included below.

Habits of Learning

In addition to traditional academic learning, River Valley Charter School places great emphasis on Habits of Learning, or what are sometimes referred to as Social/Emotional learning. Our Learning Goals value the Habits of Learning as much as the academic curricular areas.
